The Division of Mata Pelajaran Pengajian Umum (CNBL) had organized the Pertandingan Pidato Bahasa Malaysia 2014 on 18 November 2014 in the Auditorium of Bangunan Tun Tan Siew Sin. The main objective of having this event was to instill awareness amongst the students on the importance of acquiring the ability and confidence to speak our national language fluently in public. Participants were also given an opportunity to develop their articulation skills and confidence in public speaking. The theme of the competition was “Malaysia Di Sini Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta”. Sixty one students from all the four faculties (FASC, FAFB, FSAH, FEBE) and Centre for Pre-University Studies (CPUS) participated in the preliminary round. Ten students were chosen to enter the semi final round. Out of the ten participants, five were chosen for the final round.

Pertandingan Pidato

Doris Chin Chia Ying, a Bachelor of Business (Hons.) in Marketing student, won the hearts of the judges with her inspiring speech entitled “Sehati Sejiwa Tonggak Perpaduan Rakyat Malaysia” and walked away as the champion. She won a Challenge Trophy, a trophy, a certificate, voucher and a dictionary. The first runner-up went to Wong Chun Wei, an A-Level student from the Centre for Pre-University Studies, who delivered an interesting topic on “Kemaslahatan Bahasa Kebangsaan dan Usaha Pemartabatannya”. The second runner-up went to Syairini Binti Shabani who is a Diploma in Business Studies (Business Adminstration) student from the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business. She presented her speech on “Sejarah Perjuangan Kemerdekaan, Pembakar Jiwa Patriotik”. The other two finalists, Samuel Ong Kuo Xian, from Diploma in Mass Communication (Broadcast Communication) and Letchumy A/P N Elanggovan, from Diploma in Social Science (Counselling), both from the Faculty of Social Science, Arts and Humanities, won the consolation prizes. While waiting for the judges to evaluate the performance of the participants, students from Bachelor of Business (Hons.) in Human Resource Management and Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting) sang two songs entitled “Warisan” and “Di Sini Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta”.
