Regardless of the obstacles faced, students of Diploma in Science (Computer Science and Management Mathematics), currently taking Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism course, collaborated with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to play their role in raising awareness to others in order to conserve and protect sun bears, under the Sun Bear Awareness & Conservation Campaign in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (Red Bricks Cafeteria Foyer) from 7th to 9th of March 2016. The group consisted of 27 students under the monitoring by Mr Muguunthan A/L Narayanamoorthy, which were allocated for each task clearly to form a better cooperation among each other.
When they were given the task to complete and make the event success, they first had a few discussions and gathered ideas of what they should do. Then, they started off with designing the flyers, sun bear mascot, sun bear origami and door gifts such as bookmarks. It took them a fortnight to complete everything and started the promotion of the event. During the event, they received good responses and support from many students and lecturers. The students were also enlightened about the existence of sun bears, how they can help in protecting sun bears and the current measures taken by Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to protect and conserve sun bears. After the campaign, they attended a talk held by Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to have a better understanding about sun bears. From having no thoughts of what sun bear is to helping the sun bears to survive, the students have learnt to be more compassionate towards the nature and wildlife. Their endless effort in making the event a success when they gained more than a thousand of likes for a poster of their event shared on the TARC LifeHacks. During the event, they received a special visit by the President of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC), Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, Deputy Dean and Associate Dean of Faculty of Applied Sciences and Computing (FASC), Ms. Lim Mei Shyan and Ms. Chok Len Mooi respectively. Representatives from Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) and FELDA Global Ventures (FGV), Mr K.Ilangowan, Mr Balu Perumal and Ms Shiyamala Sivakumar have also visited our exhibition booth.
